So I just got my university results (yay!) and I'm graduating in 2 weeks time. I'm curious as to know if the order of which students go up to collect their certificate is determined by the rank of degree classification (students with a 1st class go up first, then with a 2:1) or is it totally based by surname in alphabetical order?
What order are students names called out during the graduation ceremony? Watch

When I graduated it was in order of degree classification. Those who had achieved 1st class went up first and were in alphabetical order. Then everyone else i.e.: 2:1 and below, also in alphabetical order.

I'm pretty sure it depends on the university. When my sister graduated, they did it in alphabetical order. If someone got a First, they mentioned this as they called out their name. Those who got a 2:1 or below only had their names called out without the classification.
