So I have a firm and an insurance offer but I would like to get rid of them and go through clearing because I have found a course I would much rather do. Should I email the universities and explain why I want them to remove my offers? I've heard universities won't even talk to you unless you have a clearing number? Need to get this sorted ASAP as clearing opens in 2 days, any advice?

Do you already have your results? You're better off phoning both choices rather than emailing them and clearing saying you no longer wish to take up your offer and wish to go into clearing, once ucas gets their permission to do so they will then update your track and give you a clearing number (assuming that you already have your results).

I get my results this results day... I just want to get my self ready for the clearing process to begin, you can only apply for clearing after you have your results? or is it just that you can enquire about clearing positions before you have your results?

You can only apply in clearing once you have results in your hands, and universities are only supposed to speak to you once you have a clearing number.
In your situation, you can speak to your firm and insurance and it should be possible to ask for you to be put into clearing in time for results day but don't leave it too long to sort, it's not a unis priority to get rid of you so it's something they can talk their time with sometimes.
