Student discount over summer hols? no NUS card

Well now summer hols have started and i wont be back in education til september (when uni starts) I was wondering if theres anyway we can still get student discounts over summer? My college id which is also my NUS id expired at the end of June so i cant get discounts at the cinema or other places anymore which is kinda annoying since i dont have much money at the moment but ive got loads of free time. Is this just inevitable or is there anyway around it? There must be other people in this situation. Thanks.

I can use my college ID most places which doesn't expire until September. I'll still have one month without it, but that ain't so bad.

I always use mine in the summer without any problems, its a uni ID though with NUS on the bottom- I think shops just assume that you are a continuing student and will have a new one in Sep
I've still got an NUS associates card that expired yrs ago and discovered that I can get online discounts from Topshop :ninja: which probably applies to other stores in the Arcadia group

Lol, Topshop never check them anyway! I always just show mine and they never make any effort to check the date or anything (but its always been valid so its not like there would be a problem if they did decide to one day anyway). I dont think any high street store has actually made any effort to check mine properly really, and I used it in all sorts of places

EDIT: Oops sorry just re-read that you use it online, soz! Ive never been able to do that, the website wont accept my card :frown:

My uni isn't NUS affiliated and so I am quite versed in the argument with stores that if they are displaying a sign offering "10% STUDENT discount" surely a student card is the only proof needed that I am eligible for said discount... Most shops don't display the '10% NUS discount"

Until I became a student again last Sept, I just flashed a very out of date student card, thankfully the expiry date was in the bottom right hand corner so I just held it by that corner - I never got caught out.

What I used to do when I was in your situation was just explain my circumstances. Sometimes they would accept the card, other times they wouldn't. It's still worth a try to attempt to use it. You're not loosing anything by trying :-)

Haven't you got a uni ID that isn't your NUS card? Why don't you just show that?

At Exeter our uni cards have the NUS logo on the back, and that's good enough for most retailers. None of this expiry date claptrap
Yeah, I just show my university campus card which has the NUS logo on it. It expires June 2010 so I'm fine.
Some places want the campus card, some want the nus card, most dont take any notice of the dates or even pictures on the cards. Iv never had it taken off me and inspected, a quick flash gets me the discount.
The only times it ever gets inspected is when I use my rail discount card, I should never have used the picture of me all glammed up for the ball, I never look like that at 8am in the morning!

The NUS Card expires at the end of August each year and you can buy your new one as of 4th August at
http://cards.nus.org.uk/buy/default.aspx

It is definately the best discount card around... I have never been knocked back with it.... saves hunting around for discounts, they are all listed on the NUS site.
