University of Liverpool Halls

Hi i have received a conditional offer for physio! I hope to study at the university of liverpool. Has anyone got any advice on which halls i should apply for. Im interested in self catering and was considering applying to derby and rathbone and philharmonic court. Has anyone seen what these halls are like and are they far from th uni? I'v also visited liberty park halls and i really like them aswell. Im so confused!! lol Any advice is appreciated! Thanks
I wouldnt recommend Liberty Park to you because of its location, its not the safest of areas. The more central halls such as Lennon Studios, Cambridge Court and to some extent Capital Gate, Opal Court and Prospect Point are in better locations. These are all private halls tho. Uni halls - Off campus wise i stayed at D&R (not self catered) but for SC it is the best, the town halls arent too good quality. I think Philharmonic is the best of a bad bunch. But check out the threads on it in the Liverpool Uni part at the top or the Wiki and that should help you.

Gemma, are you more wanting to go in private halls? Im going in d and r in 2007, heard the atmospheres ace in the uni halls, not that i kno! x
Some advice for all, cookin on your own isnt easy and is definitely not fun.

Choose one of the catered accomodations at the Carnatic site. Really nice and lively halls. The food isnt bad either. Btw, the halls have kitchens too...so you can cook on your own too.

And another thing, my cousin was in SC halls and she moved to Catered within months. Why?.. because your food gets STOLEN...yes STOLEN!! Its like u just cooked sumthin and went to wash ur hands, the moment u come back for takin a bite...ITS ALL GONE!! If you put sumthin in the fridge-u gotta be dumb. In fact, even if you have a candy bar in your pocket...its gone the moment you step outta your room!!

I doubt that its that bad, unless you live with animals in which case you just complain about them to the halls manager.

you get your own locked cupboard in the kitchen and why don't you just have a mini fridge in your room. its what i am going to do.

im studying physilogy at liverpool in sept and i am staying self catered at D&R.

there are just as many bad points with catered, the main one being that i would be paying for food that i wouldnt eat (early morning breakfasts etc). its just down to personal preference.

also D&R has the nicest rooms out of all the liverpool halls
Well, thats only what ma cousin told me. Keepin a fridge in ur room is a gud idea but I dont think ur allowed to..especially at any of the university of liverpool halls of residence. Here, check out this link.

(read point 3 under "Useful things you may want to bring")

As for the rooms, I suppose ur right as Ive heard the same too. But even the rooms in McNair(thats where I'll be) aint bad...kinda small but nice.
It's only rankin and lady mountford with not-so-good rooms.Breakfast at carnatic is usually on till 0900 AM...thats not too early now is it?

But yeah, it all does come down to personal prefference...u should take wat suits ya.

Fridges and kettles are definately allowed, well they were this year. Fridges have to be less than 20 litres i think. And even if ur not allowed them now, which i cant see why not its not like they take any action, they just warn you about it and ask you to remove it.

And the food stealing thing is nothing like you say. I know a few people who've had a few items taken but mostly its just people coming home drunk and eating the first thing they find - nothing major. To be honest i'd have preferred self catered, the catered food isnt worth the money.

You can keep a "drinks cooler" in your room. Depending on what hall you stay in, you can have a pretty large one. Either way i dount they are going to take out the tape measure. Random room inspections do happen though. Usually though somoen will get checked a day before you so you know when one is comming up.

catered rocks. parthopediac dont u be dissin rankin. we bloody luv the rankin. evry1 in it luvs the rankin. its the biggest of the halls n its got such a party atmosphere. n the food nickin thing isnt exactly a major problem. but bread and cheese goes within hours. if sum1 cums into the kitchen you no theyr guna make themselves sumet wi ur bread n ur cheese.or leav it open n unwrapped so it goes a bit off once theyv finished with it. n wen u cum home at night pissed n hungry whole loaves of bread can be eaten by each person. stil...its not a prob cos these ppl r ur buddies and u luv em and dnt care that they eat ur food

i just rekn thers plenty of time to cook for urself in evry remainin year of ur life. the cooked breakfasts at carnatic r legendary. as long as you can drag ur hungover body up to the canteen then thers a feast awaiting. then you can just go straight back to bed wen ur finished. its no where near as fun to make urself sumet cos teatimes r great for headin up to tea wi all ur floor n sittin ther for ages n just chattin n eatin n laffin n stuf. u dnt get that wi self catered
opal court looks really nice!
