Yu-Gi-Oh is okay, but the story is dragging a bit. I like the different creatures and how they bring the cards to life. The illustrations are fasinating! S.T. Gundam is currently showing here. It's computer generated so it has a different look to it. The new hot wheels show is not anime, but it's done in the same style as ReBoot, so I'm sucked-in.
Movie wise, "Spirited Away" & "Castle in the Sky" are definite thumbs-ups.
"Metropolis" was good and I just received "Animatrix". This one is suppose to explain the movie "Matrix" (Thank you lord!).

I wasn't into anime at first, but the artform sucked me in.
I'm working on a few costumes for the anime com over here. How much fun can one person have? Halloween in April! Yippee!

I'm studying for finals, so I'll be "off-and-on" for the next few weeks.

    Cheers!

    Scourge,
I totally forgot to give you my favorite quote of the week. (saw yours and I love it.)

    Here it is:

    "Reality is not your friend."

I've put it on my backpack and I made a shirt with t on it. It gasses-up my teachers!

    Well, don't study too hard.

    Cheers!

I'm afraid that I do not like anime.

I'm ok with buying games that could be classed as anime though - the Final Fantasy series (although I only have VI, VII and IX) is an example, and so is Soul Calibur.

I don't know why I take an instant dislike to the genre...
Perhaps it's the awful voice acting, or the cartoony feel that makes it seem somehow 'kiddie' to me.

(I know that some of the stuff is not aimed at kids, I saw something akin to hardcore cartoon pornography on the internet which kind of disgusted me...)

That's why I think Yu-Gi-Oh and Digimon etc...are crap because the American voices ruin it. If you watched a bit more of proper Japanese anime, like Full Metal Panic or Naruto for example, it's is a totally different story.

Try and watch a bit less Toonami if you can.

Anime is more a medium than a genre, as it is just a means to display a huge range of different stories etc.
As Jedi/Neji says, American dubbing is poor, however if you watch in the original language then you may grow to appreciate the skill of professional voice actors.

Unfortunatly there is a lot of hentai online, even when being very cautious it seems to spring up *sigh*, ah well.

Have not yet seen it. Got some birthday money to spend though and have been looking at various series on Play. How long is it? There seem to be quite a few (= costly).

Ooo! They're stocking Fruits Basket soon, the first proper series I watched, the anime that sparked my obsession...ah, class. *ponders whether she ought to buy it considering how many times she has watched it*

    Will,

Oooh.. I bet you had to really work your brains cells for that comment. Quick...get the fire extinguisher!!!

Try reading my message again and you'll see that I'm talking about the ARTWORK on the cards. If you look (try...try real hard) you'll see that each artist has a distinct style.
But then you're probably upset that your Pokemon cards aren't worth a spit. :-) My little brother loves Yu-Gi-Oh and considering the fact that I have to watch him, I end-up seeing the show. I do like some of his cards and my girlfriend has blown-up a few for me (Monster Reborn is cool!) poster size.

Let's face it, there are different styles of Anime and if you're going to get pissy about it, then change the subject. So far you're the second person I've read that doesn't know a thing about American culture.

They don't often show non-dubbed shows. For the good stuff, I have to go to an Anime store that's almost an hour away and rent them.

So instead of talking down to people, try to enlighten them. It's much more satisfying..........unless you're a jerk.

So Will, are you a jerk?

Sorry, my "sights" were out of line. Seems that byakugan_neji was the one to have received the "Kat Klaws" for lack of understanding.
I humbly apologize to you Will.

I've just discovered a site, that may or may not interest some of you who like to watch anime in it's original language- Japanese.

As you should know, Japanese voice actors are (in general) superb, and the site I have discovered contains a huge list of animes, the voice actors of each character and which other characters, from other series, they've played.

Having seen a large number of different animes I am really intruiged to look at who is played by the same as who. Really very interesting, certainly from my point of view.

    Anyway-

    Egan1,

    Verry Kewl!

I wish they also listed the director and animators. The artwork is intriguing to me.
There's an anime con coming into our area next month and my girlfriend and I've been working on our costumes. Mine's easy enough, trenchcoat, wicked ponytails and glasses with attitude!
If I find any vendors with sites, I'll let you know. Till then....Cheers!

Part of me almost wishes that Scrapped Princess could be licensed- as I'd love to have a copy I could watch larger and of a better quality. However at the same time, that'd be cruel for all those who have yet to enjoy it . And also, the horror of the dubbings might create some deep trauma, so perhaps it is best they are left. All the same, it seems to me to be a very underated series- well, not underated, but perhaps underviewed. There are very few fansites or the like, or I have yet to find them.
Fruits Basket, as I have said, was the series that began the obsession, and is another I love. I've rewatched it many times. -It was licensed a while ago, and is the first DVD is finally about to be released (huzzah!) for those of us who live in the UK. -I'd intended to get it, but I'm a little concerned as Play and Amazon both fail to say that it contains a subbed version. I've heard a snippet of the dubs on an advert and *shudders*, I wouldn't be able to stand it. Hopefully it will have it in it's original language (it would be a little odd if it didn't considering it would cost them little extra time or money).

EDIT- just checked and it's now been updated, it will have subs, thank goodness

yay, another anime thread! Anime rocks, currantly i have bought 10 manga books, an i taped one un dubbed (but subtitled) anime. The japanese language is facinating, and seems to include some english(?), but then again most languages include some of others. Must buy some DVD's when i save up the money, and nick my parents DVD player!
My faverouts are Tenchi (all the versions, as tenchi is what got me into it) D.B (has some cool fight scenes and generally funny moments, aparently there names meen things like 'boobs' and 'dinner'? dunno bout that), G.W(big robots, fighting... hell yeah), yugi oh (collect the game, it's cool to see cards that you really have being used), seen big O a few times (once, so im not too sure bout that, looks interesting though!), pokemon rocked when i was younger(not so easy to like it anymore, as it doesn't show any reall violence, the idea behind it is actually very violent, capter wild animaly, and make them beat the sh*t out of others!), and prob some more, but i can't remember right now...
P.s Does ny one write fan fiction by the way?

I'm not really a huge fan of anime but I do like DragonballZ and I think Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) is THE BEST ANIME EVER!!! Watched every single episode including the OVA and the final chapter on DVD... excellent series. I just don't think there's anything that can match up to this anime. It's the best ever!

japanese language is facinating, and seems to include some english(?), but then again most languages include some of others.
I'm not sure whether it's just words that don't exist in their language that they sometimes use. I think this is only the case sometimes though. Not sure, but they quite often slip in words/phrases in English, which makes you wonder whether they're understood by the audiences. Probably.

Things like 'nice timing' ('nice-a timing-goo') come up quite often. -They also might say 'bye bye', which I suppose is similar to us saying 'chow'.

It's quite amusing in songs when they're singing in Japanese and then bring in a couple of English words. The lyrics often make little sense anyway though. Heh.
    - On the songs side, anime wise, sometimes the opening/ending tunes are sung fully in English -but sung by a Japanese artist. I suppose this is just Western influence.

I love the language, it has a great sound. Hopefully I'll learn it properly sometime in the future.

Hey Edo-kun, me and Egan1 just noticed your presence here. I could tell from the moment I saw your name that you were interested in Japanese culture. I love anime myself as well. If you look through the posts on this thread, you'll find out pretty much what anime we like here.
