Basically I want to do adult nursing and soon need to choose my A-Level options. For example the entry requirements for Surrey is BBB but apparently the typical applicant has an average of 404 UCAS points. BBB would get me 300 UCAS points. Would I still be able to get in by only doing 3 A-Levels and getting the required BBB grades or would I need a similar number of UCAS points?

Some applicants will have 4 A levels, others will have IB or BTECs or AS levels that give them extra tariff points overall.

If they state that they want BBB then that's exactly what they're looking for. For courses like nursing academic requirements are only a part of the process - they'll also be looking at your PS and your performance at interview to determine if you're suitable for an offer (and that offer is likely to be BBB or equivalent).

Try not to overthink things and focus on finding out about the actual content of the course, exactly what they're looking for in your PS and the qualities they will look for at interview.

Okay thanks very much. So if I achieved the BBB I could still be accepted?

see http://university.which.co.uk/univer...g-3-years-b744 and scroll down to the "Most popular subjects students studied before attending" section. Or go here: http://www.bestcourse4me.com/explore/?Tab=ALevel and plug in nursing and surrey and look at the A level information for entrants.

If they say they want BBB then BBB is what they'll offer at...IF you meet the non academic requirements of the course

(so stop worrying about the academic side of things for now and make the most of your summer to get experience and evidence of non academic qualities that they're looking for)
