Well I'm not a Durham student, I'm UCL student who's just finished first year. Feel free to hurl abuse in my direction
I'm just having neuroses nowadays about whether I should have chosen Durham instead. Academically I like UCL and have made friends, and had good times, but sometimes I wonder how Durham, my original dream choice would have been. I was pleaded with by my mum to choose UCL but what drew me to Durham was the prospect of not just great academia, but also more house parties/college based events, and more tight-knit friendships because of college life, whereas in London the friends I've made this year I enjoy hanging out with but we just don't seem as close as the friends I made over five years at boarding school.
I've also heard (this is silly) that at Durham relationships and stuff come more easily and naturally (my friends who've gone there all got girlfriends really quickly and are happy) than in London where because it's so big, people are always looking elsewhere and it makes it harder and you really have to go for it. Now I will probably sleep on this and there's no use over crying over spilt milk and I enjoy UCL academically and will figure stuff out socially, but just want to hear from people how accurate my presumptions are about things I've missed out on.
What do you think?
