    So recently my friend told me they lied to their work experience placement boss that they did NOT have a mental condition; they have Asperger's. I wouldn't be so confident telling people I had that condition if I did have it, so I told him that if his condition is found out, he'll have to confess, but I told him the best to do was to simply tell them. However, now that he's finished the placement, he still hasn't told the boss about his Asperger's. I was torn about how to react; one half of me is glad he kept it to himself, the other is mad about him not being honest with them. So...TSR to the rescue. Is it right to lie about a mental condition?

    Aspergers isn't a mental health condition in the same way depression or anxiety is. So technically he is not lying. He obviously knows how it affects him and if he needed the support he would of asked for it, he managed to get through the placement so I dont see the problem there.
    How would they have found out ? and why do you care so much that he didn't inform them ?

    In my personal experience most people have never heard of autism or know very little about so you have to use your judgement of the situation to decide whether you want to tell them or not.

    I sort of wonder why you care. In any case i think it's fine unless it's a job like collecting for Oxfam where a communication disorder could result in fewer donations and people starving.

    Fine to leave it out as its personal priviliged information albeit you have to accept any repercussions from lying.

    I don't see anything wrong with him keeping it to himself if he is more comfortable with that. Obviously his employer would have to make accommodations for him if he disclosed having a disability and he would be protected from being fired as a result as well so he shouldn't worry about those things. But as far as a moral responsibility to tell, I don't think there is one, it's up to him to decide whether the costs outweigh the benefits.
