So, basically I was at university but didn't enjoy my first year at all, so I completed first year and thmen deferred my 2nd year (as a back up plan) and spent this year working, and figuring what else i could do if i didn't want to go back to my original university. Now I am hoping to apply to York university through clearing for the same course (languages) which I tried to do last year but they said because I had already done a year of languages it would put me at an unfair advantage. I was hoping someone could give me some advice as to what i should say on my personal statement about my year at university that i've already done, or if i should email and ask? But also don't want to alert the university to the fact that i've been to uni already if they don't have to know! i have forgotten most of first year anyway so i dont think i would be at an advantage anyway after a year. Any advice would be helpful

It has to go on your educational history, so they will know. Can you not apply for second year entry? Are you only applying to York? I would email them and ask what they want, tbh if it's the only uni you are applying for

They said I couldn't go into second year because they do a linguistics module in first and second year and because I hadn't done it i would be too behind on it to go into second year :/

Tell them that because you weren't happy at your first uni you don't feel you performed to your full potential and that as well as likening the course more at York you'd like to rectify that.
