Malaysian here. Was just wondering if whether any of you have been on the same boat as I currently am. I study at King's and will finish in July 2018. Been here since Sept 2015. My visa is for 3 years, obviously. But my passport expires on Nov 2017 (next year). Hence it will expire before my visa does. Tomorrow I'm going to renew my passport.
In terms of travel in and out of the UK, there would not apparently be a problem. I can bring around both my old passport (with the visa sticker "vignette" in it) and the new one (which does not have the visa vignette). Fyi, I also have the Biometric Residence Permit.
However, I have concerns and doubts on my eligibility for work. I contacted the student advice team and etc.. but it was late and they said they did not currently have advisors and I may have to wait up to 5 days if I sent them an email. This is what the UKCISA says about renewing my passport..."If you obtain a new passport because your old one has expired, you can use both your old passport, containing your visa, and your new passport to travel to the UK. In this situation you are not required to transfer your visa to your new passport. However, this would not be sufficient evidence of your right to work in the UK."
I am applying for internships next cycle. I will also likely land a job in London before I graduate. What's it look like for me now? Do I need to reapply for another visa vignette for my new passport? What is sufficient evidence of my right to work?
Or does it play no part?
