I am hoping to start a career in IT and currently looking at a foundation Computer Science Degree in Swansea.

I've read that foundation degrees include work based learning, not something I'd be able to do in my current job. Is this a degree that I'd be able to do myself or do I require the support of my employer?

And if it's not suitable are there any other routes that might be better suited?

    Thanks
    Chris

Is it part or full time and are you walking away with just a foundation degree or a bachelors 2 or 3 years full time depending. Also all degrees now have to include some form of placement / work experience in the industry

It is part time, 2 years, with the option of an extra year for a BSc.

Ok, so if it requires a placement in industry does that mean I won't be able to do this course with my current employer? I'm sure I can get a day off for it but not have any computing experience in work.

Basically the placement is a requirement of so many hours usually there will be weeks away from lectures where you do this (usually 60hours in total) and as you are working part time around your degree you would do your placement when you have time of from lectures. Or reading weeks/holidays. Also is your employer helping to fund your degree or is it just a source of income?

I emailed the uni to find out about the course. They said the aim is to upskill employers within their organisation however anyone can join, I'd just need a mentor in my job.

    Slightly confused now.
