So I am looking to apply to study law at university next year (September 2017). Ive just finished year 12, going into year 13. I have tried to read some books from the library but they are way to complicated. Can someone please recommend some good ones that a beginner can understand please?

The Rule of Law by Tom Bingham

Also check out The Right to Privacy by Brandeis and Warren. It's an article that you can find as a pdf online for free.

I enjoyed 'The Law Machine' by Clare Dyer and Marcel Berlins for a clear discussion of today's legal system (it's a few years out of date but not too much).

Also, 'Eve Was Framed' by Helena Kennedy was an inspiring read, if you are interested in gender equality and the law.

Letters to a Law Student is great - it's not really a law book per se, but offers great advice about whether law is for you, the application process, what it's like to study it etc. It's expensive, but it's a lot cheaper on Kindle so I'd recommend getting the digital copy and reading it on your phone or tablet if you don't have a Kindle. I really enjoyed reading The Juryman's Tale, but definitely get it second hand (or free from a library) as I don't think it's worth £12.99! Right now on Amazon there's a used copy for £1.98. Link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Jurymans-Ta...sr_1_1?ie=UTF8

And I've got a copy of The Rule of Law, which I haven't read yet but seems like it'll be interesting: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rule-Law-To...sr_1_1?ie=UTF8
