If you have no symptoms, it's really quite unlikely you have diabetes. I'm not sure where your weight comes into it - the fact you're skinny means it's virtually impossible for you to have type 2, and if you had type 1 you'd have symptoms. I'm not sure what sort your Dad has, but regardless, the genetic link is not that strong.

Plus, if they're not looking for diabetes, it's unlikely that they'll find it... Blood tests don't automatically look for everything - they look for what they're suspicious/want to know about.

Unless you're really getting full blood work done - testing for just about everything - the blood test is not going to tell you if you have diabetes or not. My dad is diabetic and so far I haven't shown any signs of it (I had a blood sugar test at the end of last year which was normal). If you're worried about it maybe you should get tested for it - what's the point in worrying needlessly. If you end up having it then you can get the appropriate treatment rather than leaving it which will only result in you getting very ill. If you don't have it then you wont need to worry anymore.

Well my dad takes tablets so I dont know if he is 1 or 2. I go to the toilet about 4 or 5 times a day is that normal?. Also I am vegeterian.

forgot to ask but what are the symptoms?

any more views?

Symptoms are going to the toilet to urinate more than usual, low blood sugar is indicated by a 'shaky' feeling etc. Look it up on the internet.

Either way my Granda and Dad both have diabetes so I may get it also; we will just have to see what happens.

Tablets = probably type 2. In which case, if you're slim and healthy, I can almost guarantee you won't have it. Vegetarianism has little to do with it.

As for symptoms, you can use google, but really, I think it's very very unlikely you are diabetic.

thanks helenia, you make me sound a bit more confident. I go to urinate about 4 or 5 times a day is that normal?. Also I am slim but I have been pretty ill for quite a lot this year especially at weekends. My waist is extremely small too.

They're probably looking for anaemia or some kind of iron deficiency, what with you being so slim and vegetarian, it's very common.

Reply 8

I volunterred for it lol just to see because I have felt tired quite a lot over this year.

I'm not sure why you keep going on about your weight. Being overweight is a risk factor for diabetes, being skinny and veggie is nothing to do with it. Far more likely you're anaemic or something like that. And yes, your toilet habits sound reasonably normal.

Ok thanks. I only wanted to know if I had hayfever but my mum suggest a blood test. As for asking about the toilet thing, someone said to me once if you go the toilet more than 4 times a day you have a week bladder.

"Someone said to you" so it must be true. If you go, like, 8 times a day every day, then it's something to worry about. I hardly think what you describe is a big deal. What you're going for is just a blood test - though admittedly I don't know entirely what for. It's unlikely to find anything catastrophic.

Today is the big day, well worried.

Reply 16

heavens sake my mum cancelled now i have to worry for longer.

Are they looking for Diabetes? It's usually done with glucose tolerance test, where they give you a load of glucose, and test your blood sugar hours after (only needing a small sample of blood provided with a small prick).

Having a small waist is not a symptom of Diabetes. You're normal life functioning would be altered quite significantly if you had it (frequent urination, thirst, fatigue), so I wouldn't worry.

Well I have been going to the toilet a good 7 or 8 times recently. I wanted to know if I had hayfever but I thought a blood test would tell me everything.

Reply 19

you know if you are worried or have a lot of erections does that contribute to frequent urination?
