    Just out of curiosity,

If a potential employer calls you to arrange an interview for a part time job, does it look bad to them if you can't make one or even several dates (example: they offer a date/time and you immediately say you can't because you have a family event or something, then when they offer another date you say you can't make that one either)?

When they offer you a date you cannot attend you could obviously say "sorry, i cant make it on that day due to other commitments" but in return you could offer an alternative date that suits you so it doesnt seem like you arent interested

When it comes to employment, my family are very understanding if I can't attend some event... unless it's a serious family emergency. If you're unable to sort out your priorities, then at the very least don't mention that you can't attend an interview because it's your cousin's birthday or whatever. You could say that you're currently interviewing and aren't available on that day, or that you're unavailable due to a family emergency, or just simply unavailable. Always offer a range of dates of when you are free. There's plenty of other candidates that will gladly jump at the opportunity - so tread carefully.
