UCL gym

Hey ive just seen the ucl gym here and tbh i was expecting a little better. I cant seem to see a few things i was expecting, e.g. bench press (flat/incline), squat rack, and im not sure but the dumbells dont seem to go all that high weights wise. Note, im not counting the smith machine, which ive seen there. Have i just missed them, and not seen them, or does the ucl gym really not have them? Also, does it have sauna/steam room? It doesnt seem to mention it anywhere?

The opening hours seem a bit poo too, closes too early - and no sundays! I assume most of the students that work out use this gym, but are there any other nearby gyms like Fitness First or similar nearby to halls/uni.

You can see more info about the gym at

http://www.uclunion.org/leisure-fitness/bloomsbury/index.php

The links on the right and side show you about facilities and prices etc.

There is a Fitness First nearby and a gym at ULU, but I think the UCL Union gym is cheaper.

Its pretty darn cheap, right in the uni so getting there is easy, and the ammenities are decent. Dont knock it till youve seen it first hand :P

That 360 virtual thing isn't that great, the BF is good value for what it offers. You can bench press there and there's a squat rack. I'd wager dumbells go up to at least 25kg. There used to be a steam room but that disappeared in the big refurb they go on about in all their promo statements.

Have a look around the gym when you get there and I'd suggest checking out ULU energybase too, which is literally down the road. There's a Fitness First on Tottenham Court Road, a Virgin Active near Drummond Street and a Bannatyne's near Bedford Way. I'm sure there's plenty of other gyms around but they will hit you hard in the wallet.

p.s it's not open forever because it's staffed by UCL students who have better things to do!

are you kidding 25kg not to sound arrogant or anything but I'm a bit of a gym freak and I need up to 50's for things like pull overs and dumbell cjest press. Does anyone have anymore info like what is the ULU gym equipment like, where is it etc...

Sorry not from London UCL History 2007.

At least, im pretty sure they can go higher than that.

Anyone else find that those virtual clips makes them dizzy?

I had a quick look today at the weights section and 40kg dumbells seem to be the heaviest in the UCL gym.

Can non-UCL students still join at the student rate?
(e.g. someone who goes to King's College but is living in Bloomsbury, for instance...)

I think you can, but (I remember reading somewhere) the numbers are restricted so as not to 'deprive' the UCLers

How much is membership? I heard its £120 for a year?

It says on the website, but there's generally a cheap deal. (They'll try and tell you it only last for Fresher's Fortnight, but that's *******s.)

UCL Gym smokes donkey penis though.

40's will do thats pretty standard. Just back from three months travelling so a lot weaker anyway. A_T be good to have another Man U fan in Schafer though this season isn't turning out exactly like I expected.
