It very much depends on your uni, but the letter seems to make your circumstances and difficulties very clear, based on your summary. Ask your Student Union, who will understand how your uni works. It's possible that you have left it too late to appeal, but you won't know until you try or you ask someone where you are. We can't really advise any further.

So I've failed my last year of uni due to depression. I want to retake the year and I wanted to ask if a letter form my GP would help me with my academic appeal.

My GP basically provided me with a letter saying I had anxiety and low mood and that I was referred for therapy and I started antidepressants. She stated that this would have had significant impact on my studies and affected my concentration and motivation to work. Also I've included another letter saying I've had to deal with my mumsevere Parkinson throughout the year having to go back and forth form Londonto Newcastle so help with my mum undergoing brain surgery. I'm really nervous about this whole situation and wanted to know whether this would allow me to retake the year.
I think that's the right sort of information to give them.

I don't think anyone on here will be able to say with any certainty what your chances are though. It would be up to the university.
