Pretty much what the title says; I'd like some advice on what sort of things I need to square away before I start the course I'm on (software engineering). When I did my Access course it was relatively simple: -
    1) Get 24+ Loan
    2) Sign some forms at the college
    3) Take writing pads/pens

And that's it, all I had to do was turn up.

To anyone reading this in uni, what's your day to day routine? What is essential to take and what is optional? How does one prepare for uni in general? What was the most unexpected thing you discovered once you started attending uni?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

If you're starting undergrad, they ease you in quite gently so don't worry too much. Your first lectures will go over assessments, what's expected, reading lists etc.

Lecturers will usually expect you to have gone over the last lecture and make sure you've got a grasp and have done any work asked of you. Obviously you need a way to take notes, either laptop or pen/paper etc. Find out if your lecture will be podcast and uploaded for you to go over, or at least the powerpoint uploaded. The most unexpected thing I discovered at a point much later than I'd have liked is that note taking really distracts from listening and understanding. It's an art to find the right balance.
