    Hi everyone,

I was on MEng Electronic engineering course over at Bristol and got an award last summer. The thing is that during the summer exams, due to personal complications, I failed 2 modules (in total of 20 credits). Since it was my 3rd year of study out of 4 I was given a Bachelors (2.1) award and sent on my way.

Now I am considering of reapplying to Uni to get my Masters in the same field just not sure how the assessors will react when they see my transcripts. Right now I feel that because I failed the 2 exams I kind of screwed myself out of Masters.

Anyone got any advice or been in a similar situation and would like to share their experience?

    Thanks

Did you successfully claim extenuating circumstances and is there a personal tutor maybe who knows about what happened and can write you a reference? If you meet the entry requirements (which you do with a 2.1) you'll be fine with a good ref.

Unless there's an application fee why not just apply and see what happens?

    Thanks for the replies.

I claimed the extenuating circumstances but I am not sure how successful that was since I was not told anything. I used to get along quite well with my tutor and I am sure that a reference would not be a problem.

And yeah, I guess the best thing to do is just apply and see what happens. Speculating is kind of pointless.. I was just hoping to see someone post that they were in a similar situation and got in without a problem =]

And now suppose I do apply, would it be better to somehow approach this in my personal statement and try and explain how and why or should I simply pretend it never happened? I did finish my first 2 years with a First and awards so I would like to mention my grades.

Your PS should be positive and focus on why you, why the course, how it fits with your career plans. You can mention your performance but keep it short and positive. Let your referee deal with it in detail. Your grades are mentioned elsewhere on your application so don't waste space here. You definitely want to chase up the extenuating circumstances before applying.

I will look into the decision on my extenuating circumstances and probably revise of what I need to include in my PS.

Thanks a lot for the support!
