Moving away for uni hopefully and looking to get rid of my car and get a road bike.

Don't know where to start or what I should be looking to buy. Does anyone know what they're talking about and can point me in the right direction?

(Apologies if this is the wrong place to post)

Something like a Specialized Allez is a reliable option without spending too much. £600 or less if you shop around.

I'm hoping to spend around 300. I might be tempted to spend more for something worth it.

Is there a specific brand to avoid?

I'll take a look at what you suggested now.
