Compare it with a victorian love novel and link the ideas of marriage and stuff like that.

Can I just say that I've just finished this book, and it was fantastic! Go Fitzgerald! The way he can succintly, yet perfectly decribes characters and themes whilst fueling the plot with intricate detail and pattering is wonderful.

i did a comparison with 'The God of Small Things', as did lots of my class, on the theme of social class (set by teacher, not chosen by us - some people chose different themes like love and such). worked very well.

also, wuthering heights would probably work well. class marriage, good comariosns/contrasts with literary devices such as the narration and structure. or victorian texts, like hi there said.

it works with Picture of Dorian Gray (Oscar Wilde) and/or Macbeth by William Shakespeare with the theme - ambition. Those are the novels we had in our category 'personal ambition and its consequence' and we got to compare it with the great gatsby
Yeah The Picture of Dorian Gray would be a good one, themes of hedonism, materialism and expectation.
