You have a habit of hijacking threads with me don't you?

You hug me a lot

Magiccarpet, I have seen that you're worried about the status of APU for law as you have said that you can't go far due to medical reasons. I hope this is correct. Would it not be better to wait another year and see how things go from there? A year to sacrifice is not a lot considering your excellent A level grades.

If you can't travel far, would UEA not be a better option ?

    Either UEA or Cambridge?

Both would take you miles and miles further than APU.

agreed. don't mean to be rude, but somewhere like APU would seriously dent any long term plans you have in Law, especially if you want MC firms (no chance of them!). In fact, the only firms that recruit at APU are likely to be small and local firms...which is fine if thats what you want, but if you don't, take the extra year!

    Just in case:

I notice some people on this thread frequently use the term 'Magic Circle' (MC) firms, but nobody has actually tried explaining the meaning. I'll humbly try: Magic Circle is a term coined in the early 1990s by some writer in some newspaper/magazine. It was used to refer to five top UK law firms which clearly rose above the rest in terms of work quality, international reach and profitability.

The five firms are Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance, Linklaters, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Slaughter & May. Each of these law firms have thousands of lawyers, many offices around the world and hundreds of millions of pounds in annual turnover.

For our present purposes, we only need to know that they pay their trainee solicitors very well and it is extremely prestigious to be working for them. Nearly half of the trainees will have a chance to be sent on secondment to some romantic overseas office, with a beautiful executive apartment thrown in. Your CV generally has a superior standing in the legal profession if you trained at one of these firms.
