I think sometimes people just have a bad day or are unhappy with their lives and so express that by being hateful to others. Definitely not agreeing with it, but you can get some nice people that just believe in the wrong things, though it helps them express themselves.

Is this a symptom of "right-wing nerd" syndrome, where people who spend more time on the internet and less time socialising have trouble empathising with others and so lean towards the right?

Yes, that is basically it. TSR does not reflect real life.

This reminds me of the rachel.crabtree thread where she got over 100 reps for an extremely similar OP and thread title, enjoy the reps I guess...

On a serious note, no one here says that all Muslims are terrorists or evil just because a small percentage of them commit atrocious acts. What's criticised most of the time is Islam, not Muslims and in my opinion that is completely justifiable.

I was genuinely curious how many reps something like this would get, immediately after the attack today in Nice.
If I genuinely wanted rep, I wouldn't post it immediately after an Islamist has killed almost 100 people, and injured over 100 more.
    No. This is about principles.

What's really frustrating me nowadays is how there is so much hate against people who are Muslim! Just because a very small percentage are nutcases doesn't mean that every single Muslim is this terrible person!!! Not only that, what's really got me is how much racism is going on every where!! I'm not just talking about white people being rascist to black people or any other race/religion, but the other way around!
In my opinion, the left is as much to blame for this as the right. People are increasingly polarized and unwilling to compromise on both sides. The left has been blaming Western civilization and the White people for a long time, and the left has largely tolerated poor behavior from non-Whites and given it a pass while shaming White people for every tiny little thing we do down to microaggressions, to the point that we can't take it anymore. This tendency has planted the seeds of discontent on both sides. We feel that we're being treated unfairly and punished for the past while having our hands tied behind our backs, while minorities are emboldened to attack White people and blame everything on us because it helps get left-wing parties into power. We tend to see mass immigration as an attempt by the left at changing demographics in order to give themselves a stronger voting base rather than primarily an act of altruism. The left has been stoking the frustration of minorities and shaming White people, while the right has been stoking the frustration of White people at being treated this way by the left. This is the result of that. Let's not pretend like either side holds the moral high ground here.
Why can't people just get a long with each other and not judge people because they believe in a certain religion or don't believe in God or come from a certain place. Like this daily mail article:
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...overflows.html

I personaly thought it was great! What shocked me was the comments some people were leaving and getting a lot of positive support!
Why so much hate nowadays? Why can't we all just get along and not judge people!!

The Daily Mail is fairly right-wing. If you read the Guardian's comment section, you'll see the opposite view. People of certain political views gravitate towards certain publications more than others.

Students in general tend to be left wing. Educated persons in general also. Nevertheless, a quick glance over this forum shows a wide range of rather right-wing people with wrong views on religion, immigration and tolerance in general.

Is this a symptom of "right-wing nerd" syndrome, where people who spend more time on the internet and less time socialising have trouble empathising with others and so lean towards the right?
People on here may well just be more honest about their opinions because they can hide behind anonymous usernames, whereas on larger forms of social media, they worry about their reputation and being attacked for their political views.
Muslims are not terrorists, or backwards thinking, they are just human beings like you and me. So if they want to worship Allah in a mosque, and celebrate Ramadan and wear hijabs , then whats the problem. their religion is not hurting you!
You know very well those aren't the things they do that are causing controversy and making people afraid and angry. Perhaps most of them don't want to hurt anyone, but the problem with Islam is that a non-negligible number of Muslims actually do want to hurt people because of extremist beliefs. These people get bolder and bolder as Muslims become a larger percentage of the population, because many Muslims are somewhat sympathetic to extremists and willing to accept them as leaders rather than fight against them, even if they personally disagree with them and wouldn't do what they do. It's a part of their culture.
When do Muslims post Christian and Jewish hate posts?
All the time. Just because they don't typically do so on here doesn't mean they don't do it at all. Check out Al Jazeera some time... sure, some of them are good people, but there's a shocking number of anti-Semitic comments on websites that cater to an Islamic demographic.
People have the right to free speech and this is respected but you should use this freedom to infringe on other rights. there's no need to spread hatred or be disrespectful . its so bad I've seen people acting like they are in the EDL. we are a multicultural country and if its so hard to be nice then please come off this website.
The problem is that the definition of respect and what's socially acceptable is in the hands of people with a very specific agenda now. Therefore, people becoming fed up with it has led to a complete loss of respect and decency, because people no longer trust those standards and have thrown the baby out with the bathwater.

There are ways to be respectful without being politically correct, but the line is harder to draw these days, because people will call you out for hateful or disrespectful speech based on the new definition rather than the older one you might choose to adhere to, so many people just decide to throw off the yolk of maintaining any kind of manners or decorum at all because they'll get called out and insulted either way, so they don't see a point in trying to sugar coat what they're saying since people will treat them just as badly whether they make their point respectfully or disrespectfully.

I'm not saying that expressing pure, unadulterated hatred or advocating violence is acceptable, but I do think that you need to be less dismissive of people whose views differ from yours, and realize that there's more behind them than hatred or lack of empathy. Some of us may very well be friends with immigrants, show them kindness, and try to get along with them, but vote against further immigration for practical reasons. Your refusal to accept that there are reasons for disagreeing with left-wing policy that go beyond hatred or racism is as closed-minded as you accuse people on the right of being.

The truth of the matter is, I don't blame Muslims primarily for this. I blame the left and the left-wing media for helping enabling and rationalizing extremist attitudes towards the West rather than doing anything at all to improve our image or justify our positions on things. Had immigration been handled in a more sensible way, with smaller numbers and more assimilation, perhaps things wouldn't have had to be this way at all.

There's so much hate towards Muslims because Islamic values are completely incompatible with western democracy. In a poll done a few months ago by Channel 4: over 50% of Muslims said they believe gay marriage should be outlawed, 38% said they believe the woman should always obey the man and nearly 25% said they'd support the introduction of Sharia Law. Muslim countries are also some of the most backward in the world. Data provided by the United Nations shows that with the exception of totalitarian regimes in Africa and Asia, it's only Muslim countries who haven't recognised the rights of gays and lesbians. In fact, it's only in Muslim countries where you can life imprisonment or the death penalty for engaging in homosexual activity. On top of this, Muslim women in Muslim countries are the most oppressed in the world - in Saudi Arabia, women aren't even allowed to drive. Data collected from the Heritage Foundation asked around 10,000 Muslims in over 50 countries their views on social and diplomatic issues, the results showed that over 600 million Muslims hold views which would be considered "radical" in western society.

Shockingly, the older generation are more liberal than the younger generation. The full poll results are available online and you'll see it's actually younger Muslims who have more conservative views.

    Hmm...
I genuinely do not think that's the case and I feel like this should be taken again. However, the homophobic one I do agree with and that's simply based on religious beliefs rather than own opinion.
