So I have a work experience placement coming up on monday, based at Daresbury Laboratory, where afaik I'll be mucking around with a particle accelerator of sorts (its called Accelerator Science Technology),
I've emailed in regards to the dress code for the week, but have had no reply at all, so I'm slightly confused, any advice as to what I should wear for the first day?

    I'm a guy btw

Wear office gear i.e. smart shirt, trousers and shoes. But hedge your bets and take a set of smartish scruffs in a bag just in case. They should provide protective clothing if you are working in a specialist area.

    Good luck and have fun!

Cheers, I'll probably do that, would you say I should bring a tie with me as a failsafe?

Why not. Put it in your pocket. Ask the receptionist when you arrive if everyone wears ties and it the answer is yes, ask where the loo is and bob in quickly. Chances are though most will be in dress down. I can't remember the last time I saw a tie in an office. Shirt and trousers is no bad compromise though, especially if you are keen.
