Movies than food, watching movies will help conversation rather than just dinner

I would suggest an activity like bowling rather than movies, especially if you or your date is an outgoing type! Sitting in silence for a few hours surely just prolongs possible awkwardness!

Cinema a better bet for second date I think. Walk in park and a bite to eat sounds good.

I can't say I'm too keen on the idea of a film for a first date.

I'd say for the first date, go to a place where you both can relax and talk without disturbances. This way, you both can learn more about each other in a settled environment.
