I completed my college course almost two months ago which was graded and awarded by UAL. It is a level 3 extended diploma which I achieved a distinction in. This grade is equal to 420 UCAS points, much more than I was required to achieve. I decided to email the university to confirm whether they would accept this qualification, to which they unfortunately declined.

I am very shocked and disappointed by this, and have decided to email the admittance office once again to try and inform them about the qualification and how passionate I am about the course, but honestly I am scared and not sure what to do or what to expect. I thought I did everything right. I got my intended grade and everything. My college's UCAS department said to put BTEC under the grade because they didn't have UAL. I'm confused and afraid. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid universities are allowed to set their entrance requirements. Admission isn't a case of racking up tariff points and getting automatic offers when you reach a certain level - the course you do must be good preparation for the degree you're applying to.

Looking at http://www.arts.ac.uk/about-ual/awar...n--technology/ only AUB, LCA and UCA recognise the extended diploma you've taken - and even then it's only likely to be appropriate for some of their courses (ie media production related courses rather than courses requiring drawing skills).

Have you tried asking the university you contacted what they would recommend instead for someone in your situation.

Universities have full rights to set their entry requirements and some choose not to accept certain courses like BTEC and your course or require an A level on top. So really, nothing you can do about it.

You generally should look at accepted qualifications in the entry requirements to see if the uni accepts your course before you apply.

    They also sometimes make exceptions.

What does your UCAS say? If your course was entered on your form and they gave you an offer with specific amount of points then they will automatically change it to unconditional because by giving you the offer they accepted your qualifications
