This kinda upsets me. Everyone should be assimilating and integrating into British culture and not just keeping to themselves. Of course, people are free to go to the mosque and have their beliefs but they should make an effort to integrate.

People generally feel more comfortable with familiarity, though I agree more effort should be made. But it's not just Muslims who do this.

For example British expats living in Europe are notorious for never even learning the language and only socialising with other expats.

That's actually quite different. Key difference being expats are not dependent their host countries, yet the millions of muslims / other immigrants here are dependent on the country, so naturally their relationship to the host country will be different when comparing expats to immigrants

As an illustrative example of what I mean, if an expat doesnt feel they can assimilate into the country then they can just hop on a plane and go back to their own country, or go live in another country.

The muslim and other immigrants that are here dont have that option. They have come from places that are much worse than the UK, and a) returning is not an attractive proposition in the slightest' b) they dont have the economic means & skills or knowledge to just hop to another country. So given that they have no other choice, if they want to be here, they need to integrate and accept the culture

Increasing Islamophobia is just one of the reasons.

This is one of the things that bothers, they will say that people are racist and not welcoming. Though they do not wish to integrate with us, and they judge our lifestyles.

Obviously the ISIS situation which is not even linked to being Muslim (apparently), doesn't help the situation at all.

I think there's just a big difference in culture and beliefs which is hard to bridge. The less religious Mulims tend to integrate very well.

Quite clearly it is the opposite.

Islam is not in line with western values and thus integration is difficult unless the Muslim puts aside some of those core values.

When they don't you get multiple, very different cultures living alongside one another. This causes Islamophobia. This caused Islamic terrorism and that causes racism. This makes the societies less likely to integrate. The cycle continues.

I don't know what can be done. But something must be done. It's a similar story with the blacks in the US. If we just sit by and say there is no problem that cycle described above will not stop and it is not good for our country, the non-muslims or the muslims.

Muslims try to integrate but every so often an ISIS idiot does a despicable attack and the vast majority of Muslims feel under attack

I used to feel well integrated and British. Not anymore, due to increasing islamophobia.

That makes sense, islamophobia goes above and beyond to make muslims feel like they are the "other" in British society.

I constantly see people say how we're just "not compatible" with British society, I saw a guy walk down the street screaming "**** Muslims!", posters on this site talk about Muslims as if we're not human and much more. It eventually has an effect on how accepted you feel in society.

I remember in my first year at uni, I joined the labour society and went to the first meet up feeling excited, that I'll meet like minded people. Instead I just had fedora wearing guys attacking my religion. Which explained why there was no other Muslim in the society. It was sad I was driven away from trying to taking an interest with this country's politics with honest intentions.

One should wonder why there isn't any Sinophobia or Hinduphobia. People only hate Islam for a reason.

Same reason people hated blacks in the 20,30, 40s, 50s and 60s?? To fit a political narrative. No one wanted to give or accept the abolition of slavery, civil/ equal rights for blacks for economic reasons. They were still lynching them in Texas up to the 50s ffs. Don't be so naïve. Do some research..there's distasteful behaviour in every religion/ culture. Don't fall for the BS. We're all humans.

    Vicious circle .

Events happen, wars, bombings retaliations and people react back often with intolerance and hatred. Its getting very unhealthy these days.

That article is behind a pay wall. It points at 800 during this time having left to join ISIS and 600 being prevented.
That equates to roughly 1 in every 2142 .

Terrorism. Many Muslims try to convert people and loudly claim some special rules/laws.
