    Hi all,

From what I've gathered reading threads, there is no easier course to get into and no specific college where applicants have a greater chance, as application specifics tend to fluctuate every year.

But what I do want to know is when people say that if they don't make their offers for oxbridge or even lse etc they say they will take a year out and apply again. Do these people actually get in second time after improving a grade outside of the 2 a-level years? After talking to the both admissions offices, they say that gap years are no problem but they did say regarding resits that there will be other people who get the grades 1st time round who you will be competing with.

So basically has anyone on here themselves or known someone who has got into oxbridge or another top uni after a year out improving grades and possibly comleting a gap year programme at a company aswell????

Thanks (and sorry if this is just a reverberation of another thread)

I guess it depends on whether there was a valid reason (eg illness) for your not getting the grades first time round. If so, then it should be no problem. If it was a lack of motivation, then take a gap year and do something related to your subject to show you're dedicated. If you worked at it and just couldn't do it, decide how relevant it is to the subject you wish to study. If it's not, I wouldn't stress too much, and, if it is....

I'm sure there are some around, and post A-Level applications are sometimes better, depends upon the person, I guess.

Well i have 7A*3A's at gcse, i've just done my a-levels in maths, econ and physics. i think i will get at least AAB (god willing) and i also have an as-level german grade B. i want to do either econ (cam) or E&M (oxf) i haven't decided yet. in case i don't get my desired AAA i would look to get them via resits during the gap year i am about to take beginning in sept.

So the subject you think you'll get the B in is actually the one you want to apply for?
