They're always lower, aren't they? I heard Nottingham were offering CCC for History and Politics the other year - ridiculous considering the standard offer is AAA/AAB.

It depends on how many places they have left.

How will we find out what grades the universities want? Will it say on the UCAS clearing page or will we just have to call the individual universities up and ask?

They might say on their website but you will be better off phoning them.

what about accommodation? say if you got into a different uni through clearing, would you have no accomodation?

Students who come to a university through clearing are generally low down on the pecking order for accommodation i.e students who had the university down as their firm or insurance would come before clearing students. So its not to say that you won't get any accommodation, it just won't be the choice that other students recieved for applying early.

Clearing is a bit like a job in tele-sales... you basically cold-call the universities and sell yourself to them and they then give you an offer! If your shi** on the phone then you might struggle!

I dnt really know about the grades being lower. The reason why a course ends up in clearing is because the grade entry requirements havent been met. But if ur close to the requirements and show that u really want the course i say you wud gt in.

Courses are only in Clearing because they can't fill their places, and if they can't fill their places with applicants who meet their typical offer, it's logical that they'd lower it to attract more students. The only time this may not be the case is for top unis who only have a few places left and are unwilling to accept less than AAB because they look for people who've missed two AAA offers, but this is quite rare. As for accommodation, it's rarely, if ever, guaranteed to Clearing students. If there's any left after all the firm and insurance students have been sorted, you'll get it, but if not, you'll have to rent privately, at least at the start of the term. Places in halls usually become available pretty quickly because of dropouts though.

Have everything prepared by you for these kind of circumstances. The numbers of your admissions tutors for your choices. Also have your personal statement on standby, with a few notes near by to help sell yourself.

Say, my origninal PS is aimed at Econ ... but then i see Business Management in some uni... will they judge my ps ? or do i change it, or is it all dependant on a call?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that your PS does not have as much relevance when applying through clearing. You should be able to get on a different course provided you have the grades and are able to communicate well over the phone (tell them you really want to do the subject).
