Hi everyone. I'm going to be applying for university after getting my A-Level results and to study Computer Science. The reason for this is just to save money so i don't have to beg my parents (want to study in London). I was advised to find some sort of work experience or do a mini project during the gap year as it would be nice to add something like that in your personal statement. I have studied VB.NET for about 3-4 years now and I can use it pretty well so I was thinking of doing a mini project using this programming language. Would universities think less of me if i do it in VB.NET instead of using other programming languages such as Java, C#, C++ etc ? I wouldn't mind doing other programming languages however I think it would be fairly difficult to make.

VB, like the name implies, is a basic programming language. However universities don't expect the people applying to know any sort of programming so a project with any of the languages would be a plus. Mostly they just want to see motivation for doing the course, your future ambitions and your actual grades you achieved. So the project would just be a way of showing your motivation for the subject
