    Hi,

So there are probably many threads like this but here is my one.

As you can see from the title, I don't have many friends that I can generally just chat to about life, family, social chit chat etc. I have about 3-4 people that I generally socialise with but they don't make efforts to hang out with me, especially since it's summer. They usually do things with their other friends, in groups of about 8-10 and I'm never invited. I'd like to say I'm close to them but clearly not.

I like to keep my head in the books and work hard at my a levels and over this year, I managed to establish some sort of reputation where everyone sees me as this genius kid where in reality, I just like to work hard.

I really don't know what to do as it is summer and want to enjoy a bit of it at least

    Any ideas?

I could have made exactly the same post..and would PM you if you weren't anonymous (always willing to talk to anyone ) but I'd advise to see if there are any residential courses etc/summer schools/study days you could still sign up for, or maybe NCS. I didn't do NCS but I've got a couple of uni study days lined up in which I'm hoping to talk to people and make friends

I think it might be a bit too late for summer residential courses

Don't look for them, they will come. Just go outside of your comfort zone and do activities you like though.

Yup, pretty much my situation. It's so sad seeing your "friends" on snapchat having such a good time and they didn't even bother to invite you

I'm 17 so I guess I still have uni in the future. What I don't understand though, is why they don't invite me to these things.

You live in the UK, it's so easy to find a cool thing you enjoy. Go train for boxing, or football, or mountaineering. Go on an adventure! Why stick to mediocre routines like hanging out with friends.

Sometimes I don't really have the motivation to do these things lol plus money is another issue so it kinda limits me in what I can do

    Hey, friends will come!

Join a club or society and get talking, join clubs or go on meetup.com and search for a group that interests you and this could be a way to meet friends.

If you ever need to talk, feel free to PM me and I'll be your friend .

OK. Thing is you can't force someone to be your friend. That way you come across as keen and you push people away. Be kind, humble and helpful without expecting anything in return and good quality people will come into your life.

I know what you mean but some people say I am extremely kind and one of the most humble people that they have met. Maybe they just don't wanna be my friend?

Then you might be at the opposite spectrum and need to man up.

Anyway you seem normal enough, and just 17, most people have it tough making friends and stuff at this age.

I'm home schooled so i literally am my own friend, for summer i would suggest doing things you love, dont rely on making friends to enjoy your break. my motto is you always find something when you not looking for it and im telling you its the same with honest and close friends you make them when you least expect to. Do things you enjoy.. you deserve the break

If you want a friend, feel free to private message.

I'm in same boat; work hard, a handful of close friends. Pretty normal for a lot of people to be fair, though I can understand why it may disappoint you. Try to be more outgoing and see how things go.
