Hiya.

There aren't any major supermarkets very near the campus - only Aldi and Iceland are within easy walking distance.

I found last year that I could just about walk to Morrisons, but needed a taxi back with what I bought. Mostly people find it easier to shop online - if you do this with flatmates you can even lower the delivery cost considerably by sharing it between you.

I always shopped online with tesco...tried asda but is wasnt as good service.

There is also a bus which runs through the uni campus up plungington road to a large asda in the fulwood area, number 23, takes about 10-15 minutes. It costs £1.10 each way.

There is also a large sainsburys on blackpool road i think..but i dont think there is any public transport running around that area

Thanks for the replies.

I tried to walk to the Morrisons once, but got a bit lost and ended up back tracking all the way back to my Halls... and to ALDI.

The bus route that goes to ASDA sounds like a good idea.

Thanks again.

I get the 23 to Asda too, the bus stop isn't too far from my halls either so no long walk with heavy bags for me

Yeah there is. If you get the number 19 bus from the bus station it will take you to sainsbury's which is about 300 yards after Preston North End.

The orbital bus route (88A and 88C) runs past morrisons, sainsbury's and asda. Admittedly the closest it comes to the campus is the bus and train stations

I used to grab the 23 to Asda when I lived down Plungington Rd. Doesn't take long to get there, n it's never usually too full (just don't get it at rush hour, it gets stuck in all the traffic and takes about an hour to get back.. Erk!).

As someone said, it costs £1.10 each way, so £2.20 for the total journey. However, if you can grab three friends who all also wanna go shopping, you can purchase one of the not-advertised 'Family Tickets' (just ask for a 'Group Ticket'). These tickets are for groups of up to 4 people, and permit you one return journey between where you get on and your destination. So you can save yourself a quid or so doing it this way.. Every penny counts, eh?

As for fresh produce, there's always the Preston market. I know people don't seem particularly enthused about buying things from markets these days, but the quality of the produce down there's great and often works out cheaper / the same price. There's also a butchers down Plungington Rd who sells great bacon, yum.

There's also two Icelands in Preston. One of them is down in the centre, and one of them is behind Moor Lane Halls. The one behind the Halls is just as big (if not bigger) as the one in town, and often not very busy. The prices are just the same, and it's actually nearer for most people to go there than to trek into the town centre.

Hope this helps..
