    just asking on behalf of my friend who be in year 13 in September, so her gcses were 9A* and 1 A and she wants to go to St georges uni to study medicine but everyone is pressuring her to apply to Russell group universities she only applied to imperial but applying to work placements does the name of the universitys make a difference

    Not for vocational things like medicine, she should go to the place that best suits her.

    The course content and learning style are much more important in the decision that the university name in this case.

    the simple answer is NO! unless you are looking for an ego boost by saying I go to x university, it simply does not matter. As far as I know, the application for foundation schools when you graduate is blind, so they cannot even see what university you went to. Tell her it is much more important to choose a medical school that offers the right teaching style for her and is a location where she will be comfortable to live in for 5/6 years. If she wants to apply for St George's then she should.
