Is my employer obliged to give me work? watch

    • Thread Starter

I was offered a role at NCS / The Challenge as a Senior Mentor. I attended two days of unpaid training over a month ago but I still haven't been offered any work. Employees are supposed to do either one cycle of 18 days or two cycles of 18 days.

It was never / has never been made clear to me that I might only be required as reserve staff. I have tried to search for anywhere where it might say 'we cannot guarantee work' but I cannot find anything. Everything seems to imply that you will work for a minimum of 18 days.

As I've said, I attended two days of unpaid training for this role so I'm starting to get really annoyed. There were dates available for the whole of summer and my availability covered most of this, however now there is obviously only a month or so left when I might be able to work with them.

Is my employer in the wrong or do I need to just suck it up?

Do you not have a contract or offer letter? If not, chances are you don't actually have a job.

if you're not contracted to X hours then they're not obliged to give you anything
Do you think parents should charge rent?
