At the moment I have been reading through an edexcel additional higher science book, and it matches what we learn in class. However, I read through the non-additional book and found that it had different content rather than simpler but similar content. Should I also be reading these books too?

I found the appropriate CGP books for my course were the best as in my opinion they summarise the information and explain it well. Especially for GCSE. If you are doing A Levels then I would recommend using the textbooks they give you alongside the CGP ones. Hope this helps.

No, I don't suggest you read books outside the Edexcel specification. You might end up learning things you don't even need - a waste of your brain cells. Also, CPGs are definitely worth buying.
