    Hi there,
No one at my university seems to be able to advise me on my exam resit. I study Modern LAnguages with business and management at Aberystwyth University. I have failed one module (20 credits) and I can resit in August. On my student record it's written that I can only get 40% if I resit. The final mark for this module consists of an essay and exam. I got 12 points for my essay and I failed only the exam part. So , if I resit, will my mark be 40 or 52?

Also, What if I decide not to resit it? How will it influence my final mark?

I'd imagine your exam is capped at 40% but you will keep your current coursework grade, the overall grade for the module depends on how it is weighted (i.e. is the course work worth 50%, 25% etc)

Because it is a resit, then unless they have said otherwise the max mark you will be awarded is a pass at 40%.

If you decide not to resit, then failure of a module is most likely to prevent you from progressing to the next year.

You have to look at the rules for grade classification to see how its made up between the 3 years. Its soemtimes possible to exclude a few modules from your overall grade,. Look at the rules though on the website or your student handbook .
