morrison induction/theory test

hello i got bit of a problem! i would appreciate help.

i have my induction on saturday to work at checkouts. However for my first week training on the letter they have just listed monday to sunday. do they require me to do training through that week?

the problem is i have a theory test booking i cannot change now because i received the letter for the induction today and its too late to change the date which is on a monday for the theory test! so i dont know what to do!

should i just accept that i need to pay the fee for theory test without taking it and just reschedule it!? or shall i try to negotiate a few hours off on that day? altho that would be my first training day and would come across bad i would of thought!

btw what do they do on the induction day at morrisons, what kind of test do you have to do? does it take up the whole day? and did you all get a weeks training?

PLZ help, thanks
Hiya,

I used to work there a couple of years ago, although I wasn't till trained. I only had one proper induction day. I just came in, watched lots, and I mean lots! of videos. To do with fire safety/serving age restricted products etc. Then just answered some questions then filled in pay/bank details.

If you are being till trained I would imagine that it would take a bit of time but you'll probably pick it up quickly enough.

If they've written monday to sunday I would personally assume that they have yet to decide your hours, therefore I would ring up and enquire about it. When they give you your hours, say that you cannot work until <insert time>. I mean they are open til about 8ish anyway, so you should have a few hours before closing even if you start at 4PM!

Congrats on getting a job  Enjoy!

hey randomgirl thanks for the help! its wasnt just you there at the induction? and what was the dress code? Yes im stressing as usual! but would defo appreciate the help, positive rep coming your way
There were about ten other people at mine, lol. I definitely wasn't alone!

I just wore a white shirt, black trousers and black shoes. Just dress semi-smartly. Although I remember seeing people in jeans.

You'll be fine, you've already got the job, so no worries.

You can re-schedule it for free as long as you do it at least 3 working days in advance. Don't potentially start on the wrong foot when it can easily be avoided.

What will likely happen is that they will set your hours that you will work. I am sure with a bit of negotiation you could get that day off or work a shorter day.

Welcome to Morrisons. Hey has anyone seen that rebranding training?

hey noxid! hey they are rebranding in i think a month or so or something like that. completely new, nomore yellow and M!

hey yeah things are sorted i think, erm could you help me i think i either misheard or got confused. you know if you work on checkouts! do you have to wear those apron things? or isit just for people who work on cleaning duties, etc?

Everyone wears an apron currently (exc Admin and managment). This should change with the rebrand. Something along the lines that victorian does not mean neat

Women have to wear the revolting brown tabard.

Dont worry about people looking at you like you are stupid. Everyone hates the uniform and if the customers start making sarcastic comments, well they better not get confused with a security call, it would be horrible to be chased into the car park and around it  .

LoL yeah. OMG you have to wear it all the time?! thats just plain wrong! they gave me a maroon/red coloured apron too! so im going to look really stupid now! and im the only guy working on checkouts that i know of so far, i bet the other guys got a blue apron!
Nah its red brown if you are permanently on checkouts. If like me, you are checkout trained, then you have the apron that is used by your department. In my case its blue.
oh right, thanks again noxid you've been a great source of help, positive rep coming your way.

do any of the people on checkouts wear the necktie? i just havent noticed anyone ever wear one, but i was given one as part of my uniform, so im guessing im supposed to.

i blame the 3 red bulls, and 4 chocolate bars i had before the induction to keep me awake for having not concentrate and listen to what was said, lol :P
Yes you will have to wear one.
Did you manage to re arrange your day?
Morrisons induction is very important and is required to be completed before you can start on the department. Inductions are held with a group of new starters and therefore it would be very difficult to rearrange the time of your induction. Therefore it would be best to try and attend if possible, if not I would speak to your personnel manager to see if anything could be done.

Hope this helps
What tests do they do within induction at morrisons.
