The only Olympics related headlines will be Zika and terror attacks in Brazil

Zika + doping scandal tainted the build-up. Looks as though the opening ceremony will drop a clanger at this rate!

I think the Zika virus situation has overshadowed the olympics tbh but I'm certainly hyped for it! I love the Olympics

    Why would there be?

    - Brazil should spend the money elsewhere.
    - Rio is by far the most dangerous place ever to hold the Olympics.
    - Things fall apart, literally.
    - Zika.
    - Russian cheats (and probably others too, there is good, just not good enough, evidence that Kenya has also been doing state-sponsored doping for its runners and neglecting tests).
    - Time difference.
    - Last time for UK was "at home" so obviously the hype was massive so now feels nothing in comparison.

Ha, completely misread that as hope. God knows why.

No, there's been a completely normal amount of hype for an Olympics not held in this country.

Guess you're all too young to remember Beijing, Athens, Sydney, etc... This is very very similar.

    Hope for what?

Your chances at getting a medal? Beyond that, what else would you 'hope' for?
It says hype, if you're going to get sarcastic at least learn to read first

    Events start today!

But I think Rio will struggle to fill their stadiums compared to London2012.
Case in point, this is SWE v RSA football now playing.

Think Zika and then Russia have kept it in the headlines.
As we arent hosting it, then less hype.

Plenty of TV coverage and will be plenty of coverage if we start winning medals.

There's probably more hype in Rio, just like there was lots of hype here for London because it was, well, here and pretty much every brand was an "official sponser" selling merchandise etc and people could see the build up such as the stadium being built, friends and relatives volunteering and it was more real and in your face.

I love the olympics and will be staying up most nights to watch the events I particularly like but I know lots aren't as bothered.

There's certainly a lack of press about the actual games themselves, e.g. I don't even know what the mascot is

    Price of tickets?

Plus Zika and natural risks in Rio keeping people away?
