For my coursework I need to compare sense and sensibility to another novel (any time period, although I would prefer a more modern novel.)

Anyone know any good books for this? Themes of love, women or marriage would be welcome. I'm sooooo stuck

First of all, have you read the novel?

What kind of love is there? unrequited, lost, unequal, etc?

How are women represented in the novel? Is is a protest novel about the restrictions women have in society? Or are the women in the novel act a metaphor for rebellious sexuality by redefining their own gender and sexuality?

Marriage - what is it about marriage that gains importancy such as the class divide, infidelity maybe? Or perhaps is it about trying to make something work when it clearly doesnt?

You need to question love, women and marriage if you haven't already and then research similar novels. Something like "the breakdown of marriages in novels" or whatever.

There's no point me telling you about a novel that expresses the joys of marriage, unconditional love or women being submissive in a text if none of these things are related to Sense and Sensibility.

Put some elbow grease into reading and researching around Sense and Sensibility.

PS: Is it a good novel? I have it but never have got round to reading it.

    i read S&S last month

It might also be a good idea to looks at books with themes of sisterhood and family, as that was the strongest theme that got through to me when I read it. Maybe Little Women or you could even go in the opposite direction and focus on something like Cinderella. Wise Children by Angela Carter also focuses around two sisters
