I left my long term job as the workload and stress was unbearable and there was no support from management when I raised the issues multiple times. I do not regret leaving as I have had a few months off and got my health back again. I have applied to 2 agencies for jobs as I have specialist skills, the recruiters say they will put you forward for a job then you hear nothing. I have been out of the job market for a while, do recruitment agencies not get back to you? Is there a lot of competition out there?

From what I understand from speaking to others you need to put a lot of effort in with agencies to get them to notice you. In practice this means calling them up, highlighting your skills and experience and if necessary chasing them up every so often.

I'm afraid this is common 'practice and procedure.'

Agencies don't actually care about you as a candidate, because if you think about it, their job is based on sales, pleasing clients and earning high commissions. When a client chooses a suitable candidate as their employee from the consultant (and agency) it is basically 'sealing the deal' as thats when the clients gets charged a fee for using the agency and thats how recruitment agencies make their money.

Saying from my experience, there are some consultants who will call you about a job they think you are suitable for, forward your CV and details to their client(s) and if the client chooses their pick..thats the end of the conversation and you are out of the picture.

It happens to a lot of us.

I had a phone call from one agency who has asked me to get a DBS check done and send my passport by email. I don't want to email my passport as*someone tried to clone my passport last year. The DBS check, I thought the employee could not request this? I don't want to pay for a DBS check if I don't get any work. I would have a clear DBS check anyway.
