Hi there. I'm hoping to go to York next year and one of the things I have to think about is where the nearest supermarket is. I was told on the open day that it's Aldi but I didn;t get chance to see where it was. Is it far away and how do you carry your shopping back to the campus? Thanks

    Hiya,

There is a Nisa supermarket on Campus West and in Halifax College, but for larger shops a lot of our students order online through their preferred supermarket and have it delivered straight to their accommodation.

Aldi and Co-op are approximately a 20 minute walk away and slightly further afield there is Morrisons, Waitrose and Sainsbury's (see links for Google map locations).

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Annie

Thanks for getting back to me. I never thought about ordering online. That sounds so much easier! I'm hoping to go to Campus East (Goodricke, if that's where that one is) if that makes any difference but ordering it, I think, sounds like my best bet.

    Thanks

    Hiya,

Campus East (Goodricke, Langwith and Constantine Colleges) will put you a little further away in terms of walking distance but you could always hop on the free bus between campuses and walk from the stop closest to the city or get the bus closer into the city and walk from there.

Generally I would say online shopping is the easiest option.

    Thanks,
    Annie

The cheapest places nearby are probably Aldi and Iceland which are next door to each other. They're in Fulford which is about a 20 minute walk but the only problem is there isn't a direct bus there. There is plenty of shops in town which you can get the 66 or 44 there quite cheaply. The only on campus shops are Nisa, which is OK for essentials like bread and milk but can be a bit on the pricier end for other things. They do often do offers, usually on chocolate and alcohol, which are definetely worth taking advantage of.
