How can I stop thinking about the past? Particularly this year (I am 17) this has been the year where I have made the most mistakes, and I have no idea how I made them. I understand that mistakes help you learn, but every night I find myself beating myself up over them.

Secondly, how can I stop comparing myself to other people?

This reminds me of my high school years. One thing that I have realised now is that I wish I wasn't taking my life so seriously. If you have made mistakes, learn to laugh at yourself! Trust me every single person on this planet makes mistakes every single day, mistakes are good. If you trick your mind into thinking that they are good, then you will be less likely to dwell on them! Let's move onto the comparison to others. This might sound like a cliche but it's true -we are all different and each individual is unique. Why would you want to be like someone else if you are amazing.People look up to people who can appreciate their own distinctiveness.

Therapy/counseling helps you as it equips you with the knowledge and suggests methods to deal with these thoughts.

17 is the time to mess up!! Don't sweat it it will be nothing in a couple years. Just block it out of your head.
