IIRC rboogie here used some of their services, and recommends them. Should probably wait for him to comment though...

If you search, they've been discussed quite extensively on this board (albeit not in recent times).

I used their resume service and it was quite useful. Did not use anything else there, but can be quite valuable in terms of wanting to stand out if you're essentially an average person - which 90% of applicants are.

Right I see, so was that Harrisions Careers you used? or www.helpmegetaninterview.com I only ask as Harrison Careers say they dont write resumes but recommends these guys. Also how much did it cost if you dont mind me asking?
The only type of people who get their resumes written by other people and pay for it are those who 1) cant write resumes and 2) have nothing good on their resume 2 say so they get "pros" to write things up and make it look good. Be a man, and write your own CV with your own language.

Not really, Resume service is what is offered by "Harrison careers". Plus im reffering to the overall fact that its better to save money and do things yourself. Google is your oyster.

The original question was whether anyone tried or if anyone knew of a person who tried the service. It's right there in black and white at the top of the page.

You have not tried the service nor apparently know anyone who has done so. To inject your opinion without any background knowledge on the benefits vs. drawbacks of said service is quite foolish.

The resume service is quite good and helped me get my offers. You should take every edge you can get. Considering I'm on one of the hottest desks for my sector, I think it was well worth the fee.

I dont need to try the services to comment on this thread. I personally think its useless paying for these interview training and other related services when you can find most of the information you need on the internet for free. In addition, I also think that getting someone else to write your CV and paying for it shows that you had difficulty in finding things to discuss and hence you got someone else to "bullshat" for you. I know numerous people who have resorted to paying someone else to write their CV because they didnt know what to talk about as they lacked the experience and skills.

Plus, I dont even think you are on the "hottest desk", You said yourself you are in a unknown boutique.

It is a good service, they present your CV in quite a dynamic way. I felt it gave me a substantial edge against the auto-filter that is most HR teams. If you're an average person with limited knowledge of the industry, (which most people are) it can be a substantial advantage.

Furhtermore, I'm on one of the hottest and most selective desks at the number one boutique in Europe (I'm sure you can guess the firm), and I used the service and it was useful.

Thanks.
I know people that have used it and got... nowhere.

And they can still claim 100% success because you're still on their book until you do get hired. Therefore, everyone is either a work in progress or successful.

Awesome isn't it?

I'm sure they do offer something, but you're paying over the odds for what you get. In terms of the 'writing your stuff' service, they are apparently good at what they do because they have a very structured and carefully considered framework to apply. Worth it? Depends on how good you are at applying the rules of dynamic and energetic English. I'd say, find a suitable friend.
I had my friends in the industry read over my CV and give me advice, for free. I'd suggest that or your careers service.

Careers service would be a desperate last gasp thing to do given that none of them have a clue how to get recruited into the competitive industry you are applying to.

I'm posting now to try and get this debate up and running again....obviously Rboogie seems to have had a positive exp with Harrison Careers but have any other people on this forum used them? Out of interest Rboogie (PM if its easier) but why did you choose to use only their CV clinic service rather than the full monty? Obviously I'm sure cost was a facotr but just wondering how much value they can add by just doing your CV without aiding a candidate with covering letter, interview technique etc etc

my CV was crap and I needed someone to fix it. It was a very simple way to fix the weakness in my app while saving time. I didn't need help once I got an interview so there was no need for any further use. The CV service I used is similar to the ones provides at your career office - I just didn't have time to wait in the ridiculous LSE lines and felt these chaps would do a decent job given I was on a tight schedule (My CV was tailored to consulting b/c that was initially where I wanted to work - it was only until I realized a bit later that I was interested in banking, so needed to adjust my CV accordingly) The value added was useful.

I applied late in the game, so I only applied to 6 banks. I had interviews at 4, offers from 3.
That statistic's not great. No offence to you, just to the service. If they are making outstanding CVs which had only a 67% success rate. In my opinion your personal achievement of 75% success rate at interviews is much better - surely you didn't need them?
