Which university boasts the best famous alumni?

ive started this thread after finding out that Thom Yorke ( Radiohead lead singer for those who don't know - though you SHOULD  ) went to Exeter university and rumour has it that he wrote Creep in the toilets of the local bar...hmmm, not sure about that but still a v. cool and talented person.
Also, J.K. Rowling went to the uni as did Will Young - i dislike these people v much but im sure SOME people must like them...

oh dear, just read that Tony Blair and Margaret Thatcher went to Oxford uni. I dont think Oxford will win now, tut tut. This could be yet another forthcoming vote that old Tony loses...

If you're talking about contemporary figures, the answer is probably London just because of its size. But if you include historical figures, then it'll probably be Oxford.

UEA had Jude Law. And we rejected Hugh Grant's application to study there. SO he went to Oxford instead  .

Yea, UEA definetly has the coolest with Jude Law, Jack Davenport, Ian McEwan, Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Higson

Don't think they would be considered the best though.. lol

Cambridge has had almost all of Britain's famous science wackos. Oxford has had a fair few famous writers...both have produced their share of pompous twats though.

Yes, Exeter has also had some famous graduates.
Oxford and Cambridge by far, each individual college has almost as many famous alumni as most full Universities. University of London as a whole has a very impressive list as well.

Prince William applied to UEA aswell and was apparently very keen but eventually decided to go to St. Andrews.

www.unofficial-guides.co.uk lists some of the famous alumni. Along with Oxbridge, obviously, the main ones for famous alumni are the big city ones like Leeds and Manchester. They seem to have more of the popular culture figures, for example Manchester has Mark Radcliffe, The Chemical Brothers, Rik Mayall, Ade Edmonson and Louis de Bernieres, and I think Coldplay met at UCL.

Didn't Christine and Neil Hamilton both go to York, which is where they met?

What a horrible thought that people like them might be roaming York...:-(
