Manchester has the reputation for being the best night life. Liverpool is good too and probably a bit safer

London. Anywhere further north isn't worth it

You're kidding, right? I'd be terrified of going on a night out in Liverpool.

I can imagine London will be the best. I unfortunately can't afford to live there.

Manchester has so many areas depending on what you're into:

The Northern Quarter - a cool vibe with lots of exciting indie bars and live music
Deansgate Locks - girls who want to be Kim Kardashian and the boys who want to **** them
Spinningfields - mostly an officey area, with lots of very chilled upscale bars
The Gay Village - self explanitory
The Printworks - tacky music, tacky clubs, tacky people but a proper laugh if you're drunk enough
Deansgate - lots of pubs and restaurants

And what about Liverpool? I have friends studying there but never been on a night out? What clubs are the best?

Manchester, Bristol and London are pretty much the undisputed holy trinity of nightlife where England is concerned.
