i3 should be enough. How much Ram has it got, and has it got the full Office suite? I don't know if there are any other techinical programs you will need, maybe some other *engineers* on tsr will be able to help me out??

    Hi there,

A powerful laptop isn't necessary for engineering. Many of the software packages you'll be required to use will be available in the Engineering computer rooms, if not campus wide. The most common and fundamental programs to use are probably Matlab and Solidworks, although different courses/universities will prefer different programs.

Your university should offer free student versions of what you'll be requiring to use. Whilst it's not necessary, it can be incredibly convenient to have the appropriate programs on your laptop. Your laptop should still run most applications.

    Hope this helps,
