Hello, so basically I was just wondering whether anyone 18 years+ has managed to get hold of a london 16+ zip card if they are in full time education but not living in london but somewhere else in the uk. I know in tfls terms they say you can usually only get one 18 years plus if you are a londoner in full time eduction, but was just wondering how strict they were on it. I used to live in london, and lived there for a bit recently, so was able to obtain a 16 plus zip card from after my birthday until September. However I have now moved back to northern Ireland and will be doing a full time education course from September, but will still be visiting london very frequently and may not be able to visit without difficulty if I have to pay the full fares. I will also in the next year be moving back to London. If lets say tfl are more leniant on things like this, should I write to them to explain of my situation? Many thanks, Deirdre

They'd still say no because it's not where you ordinarily reside.

Your other option is, if you have a 16-25 railcard, add that and you can get discounted fares.

I understand they check with the university or college that you are a student where you claim to be. So if you are not studying in London, you won't get one.

Fares are probably a lot cheaper than many parts of the country, especially for buses.*

No TFL can't bend the rules for you, they are clear that 16+ oyster cards are only available to 18 year olds who live in London when they apply. If you travel in London off peak- between half 9 and 4 and then after 7pm fares are significantly cheaper, and as Tiger Rag said you can get further discounts if you put a railcard on an adult oyster card.
