What would be too formal to wear?
And can I wear black jeans?
    Please give tips!

Just wear smart. It's the safer option.

Black jeans are fine that's what I wore, in my opinion smart casual is dark coloured jeans but not blue jeans, with a nice top and maybe a fashionable (not formal) blazer

in my opinion, smart casual would be a pair of black jeans coupled with a dress shirt. you don't really have to wear a blazer, but it'll add to the look if you do. team that with a pair of chelsea boots or dress shoes, whichever you prefer.

Mostly it means black jeans (not skinny, no tears/frayed bits and all that, some places you can get away with blue) or chinos with a shirt and fairly formal shoes. Some places can however mean smart trousers (as in like suit trousers) and shirt so if you have trousers I'd wear those for the first day and see what others wear. I think being a bit too smart is always better than a bit to casual. If you don't have trousers, I'd go chinos before black jeans.

I know from previous experience that some people on work experience really hate jeans, no matter the colour. So usually my attire, usually consists of a modified school uniform. Black trousers and a blouse/shirt. I feel like that would be the best option
