The Student Room Group
Join Warwick Snow and you will get to go on many ski trips. It seems like a popular activity. I know many people who have been on these trips and they have an awesome if somewhat drunk (but isn't that any sports tour) experience.

Hello, I'm hoping to go to Warwick in October (Maths) if I get the grades, and was wondering if there was an annual university ski trip? Also just general stuff to anyone has been before like; how much did it cost? what date was it and will it be the same dates this year? how many people typically go? which country etc..?
Thanks for your help!

Hey!

There are two trips, one the first week of the 4 week Christmas vacation, and the other the first week of the 5 week Easter vacation!

Both are around the same price, I think, which is anywhere from £250-£400 depending on whether you need/want lessons and equipment hire. About £25 is a room deposit too, which if you keep your room in one piece you get back about a few weeks after returning back to uni. And another £25 is probably insurance for yourself and the equipment incase you wreck it.

I went on the christmas one, and 400 students went (only 150-200 went on the Easter one I think)! It was great, a massive fleet of 8 coaches all full of warwick students. It's a great time, and you meet a lot of people (it's like being on a freshers week again).

I assume it's the same dates each year. I am going on the Easter one next year as with the weather as it is it'll probably be better snow (it was this year, after seeing the photos from a friend who went at easter).

This years christmas tour was to France (http://www.les3vallees.com/ - we stayed at Val Thorens) and the Easter tour was also to France (http://www.lesarcs.com/).

I think it changes each year, but I'm not sure if you find out the location until just before they start to offer it. I can't remember when we found out!

The snow society (£3) is a good society with many events (more so after the first tour when members know each other) and they went to Milton Keans snow dome before the Christmas tour so you could get into the swing of ski/boarding.

I think of the 400 at christmas about 350 were skiiers and only 50 snowboarders (I was a boarder). But it's still great fun, and if you have done it before then you can pretty much get a 9-4/5 day each day (hangover permitting).

The accommodation is self-catered (usually stop at a big supermarket before you go onto the mountain, to avoid the mountain prices, although the market on the mountain wasn't that bad when sharing the food costs between a group of 2-4 each night).

Drink is the only real other big expense. Mountain prices = expensive. We got a free bottle of vodka per room. But if you want to drink, take some with you and get some at the supermarket and drink before you head on out!

well I personally prefer the Easter tour instead of christmas...

u get to know more people thoroughly in easter since the size is smaller.

more importantly, the quality of the snow is better

Sorting through all my invoices today, found one which may be useful, the prices for the ski trip.

Start price: £279.00 (transport, hotel, ski pass)
Room deposit: £35
Travel insurance £6.90

Silver equipment hire £67 (they offered bronze, silver, gold) not sure of price difference, only like £5 between each one I think.

Lessons £59.00 (10hours)

Free tour t-shirt.

TOTAL for me: £459.64
