Painful, itchy legs due to shaving - any solution?

ok, so for years i had itchy legs that i constantly scratched. i ended up with rashes all over my legs which hurt and looked awful. fianally, about a year ago, i realised the problem was not a skin disorder, but was due to shaving with a razor (i stopped shaving and the itching/rash cleared up) - so i started using an electric shaver. but, now, alhough i dont have rashes, i have spikey hairs on my legs (as the electric shaver isnt a close shave) which i hate.

so...has anyone got any tips/advise on how i can get smooth legs that wont result in itching and rashes? (also...ive also used veet sensitive hair removal cream but this had the same effect)

please help x x

I wouldn't know but would waxing be possible? This would stop the possibilty of spikey hairs.

Have you tried any other hair removal creams? Some of them may be more effective than others.

I also have a similar problem with shaving my legs but it's not as bad and doesn't hurt all of the time. I simply shave and then use some creams on my legs just because it's more convenient but I'm not suggesting that.

I had this problem as well when shaving my legs.
My doctor told me it was eczema on my legs...and recommended using aqueous cream on my legs when shaving as it doesnt aggravate them so much.
Aqueous cream can be bought from supermarkets, chemists etc and you can get a big white tub of it for about £1.50 its pretty good stuff.
Try using that on your legs when shaving and see if it helps

Try "tend skin". It's a liquid that you rub over your legs (or wherever else) after hair removal, which says is for "unsightly razor bumps, ingrown hairs and razor burn". I don't get razor burn, but it has really helped for the ingrown hairs and razor bumps I tend to get. It also stopped any itching I would usually get shaving 'down there' when it started to grow back in. It's not cheap though (around £10 for a 118ml bottle), and I was skeptical about using it at first, but it really has worked.

make sure your not allergic to the shaving creams and foams and dont shave dry

It could be the shaving foam that your skin is reacting to. Make sure you rinse your legs really well after shaving

I've got the same problem OP. I find using shaving products designed for men's faces helps, as they tend to be gentler and more suited to tackling rashes (rather than just being moisturising and smelling nice).

e45 cream works

Aqueous cream rules for everything. Shaving and cleansing esp. And use lots of the same cream as a mosituriser for dry skin. It makes such a difference - I used to scratch my legs raw in my sleep until I used

i found i had the same problem too. i know its really irritating!
what i found that helped was:
1. to never dry shave as it irritates the skin
2. always use shaving foam. but conditioner works just as well
3. to always moisturise afterwards.

it sometimes can take up a lot of time but it helps!

i hope that helped x

I had this problem for a while.

My solution? I switched razor to gilette venus (I think...the blue disposable ones) and I always shave in the shower. I shampoo my hair and soap myself. In the meantime the hairs become nice and soft, then I lather up my legs really thickly with soap (just an ordinary bar of dove), carefully whisk the razor up them and voila. I do this everyday and they're amazingly smooth with no itching or rash. I'm actually quite proud of them!

I've been using the same razor as you and my legs are SO painfully itchy that I don't think I can stand it much longer. Although it could be the way I shave, (scrubbing on some Dove body wash soap and then shaving.) My arms never have this problem with the way I shave but I've only been experiencing this after changing my old blade for a new one. This doesn't make sense- I've gotten a NEW RAZOR; it should be getting better but it's only getting worse.
