Two referees who have known me for 5 years who can't be close friends or family? Watch

This rules out almost everyone I know since I'm still fairly young.

Can I use people I know through my parents?

They prefer academic/business references, but the only one that satisfies that requirement is a former school teacher from when I left school 6 years ago. After 6 years, it seems silly to ask them to reference but even if I did, I'm stumped for who to ask for the second one.

Previous teachers are always a good bet as are previous employers.

I've been out of school for 6 years and have been to University in that time. I don't have a previous employer who has known me for 5 years.

Seems pointless to have two references who are both teachers who I haven't seen or spoken to in 6 years.

Right what are you applying for and are you sure of these requirements? It sounds really odd to not be able to use a former teacher of some description.

Have you been a member of any clubs. societies etc?
If so you could put them.
Have you ever had any part time employment?

Ring the employer with a list of suggestions and ask them who they prefer. Be prepared to offer a third referee to make up the difference. They are using a generic application process, as it is self evidence that anyone under the age of 25 is unlikely to be able to meet these requirements.

Are the references due to a certain level of security clearance?
